Children's lives will be celebrated June 3 and 4 on Mediacom Connections during the Children's Miracle Network annual telethon benefiting patients at University of Iowa Children's Hospital at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The "Celebration" features stories of patients facing health care hurdles at specialized children's hospitals. These children need sophisticated, cutting-edge treatments. More than 140,000 patients receive care at University of Iowa Children's Hospital each year and the stories show their courage and the caring environment of the hospital. "Children's Miracle Network provides many wonderful opportunities for healing for our patients," said Michael Artman, MD, physician-in-chief of University of Iowa Children's Hospital. "From the purchase of sophisticated equipment sized just right for children to the various diversionary items that help pass time and lessen the stress of hospitalization, your donations make a positive impact on our kids and their families every day." Iowa patients Jacob Schwessinger, of Des Moines, and Alex Clark, of Dubuque, will be featured during the television broadcast. "Our workplace has raised money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital for years. I never knew the impact that Children's Miracle Network made on lives, until our son Jacob was burned," David Schwessinger said. Jacob was hospitalized for his serious burns for more than a month. The accident occurred when Jacob was 3 years old. "Mediacom is proud to partner with the Children's Miracle Network as it continues to make such a positive impact on the lives of children and their families," said Randy Brown, regional vice president for Mediacom Communications. "Our employees live and work in communities all over Iowa, and they know that local children benefit in extraordinary ways from the University of Iowa Children's Hospital." Mediacom has been a partner with Children's Miracle Network for the past four years.
