John A. Brandecker has been named associate hospital director and University of Iowa Children's Hospital administrator. Brandecker recently served as vice president of University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System; and director of Comer Children's Hospital. His previous experience includes 10 years at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in roles such as associate executive director for finance and chief financial officer, system administrative director for children's health services, and departmental administrator for the department of pediatrics. Prior to that, he worked for 10 years at Columbia University in New York City. "John Brandecker is a senior health care executive with more than 20 years of experience and a proven track record of leadership and success in highly competitive and culturally diverse environments," said Donna Katen-Bahensky, director and chief executive office of UI Hospitals and Clinics. "I am truly pleased that he accepted this position and that his expertise will now benefit patients and families served by University of Iowa Children's Hospital." "I am very much looking forward to working closely with Mr. Brandecker to advance the care of children and their families," said Michael Artman, MD, UI head of pediatrics and physician-in-chief of University of Iowa Children's Hospital. "I have every confidence that he will help raise the profile of University of Iowa Children's Hospital around the region and across the nation." Brandecker received a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York (SUNY), a master's of business administration (with honors) from St. John's University, and a master's of public health from Columbia University. He serves on the Board of the Greater Midwest Affiliate of the American Heart Association, and is a member of the Association of Administrators in Academic Pediatrics (AAAP) as well as the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). University of Iowa Children's Hospital is the state's longest-serving children's hospital. More than 140,000 children receive care at University of Iowa Children's Hospital and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year. |
