UI Heart and Vascular Center will offer the community a unique opportunity and educational experience to learn about heart failure and to even find out what the disorder feels like on August 22 and 23. The Heart FX Pod, a multi-sensory simulator transported on a semi-trailer, allows normally healthy people to experience the world as if they had heart failure for six minutes. The simulation is safe for all participants. The Heart FX Pod will be open for free tours on Tuesday, August 22, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 23, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. The simulator will be located in the parking lot of the UI Athletics Hall of Fame Building at the corner of Mormon Trek Boulevard and Melrose Avenue in Iowa City. As part of the experience, UI Heart and Vascular Center faculty and staff will offer “Living with Heart Failure” a series of short presentations designed to educate the public about heart failure, how to live with it and treatments of the future. Those sessions will occur on Wednesday, August 23, 1-3:30 p.m., in the UI Athletics Hall of Fame Building. No registration is required but lecture seating is limited. Seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. |
