Radiothons Benefit Kids at
University of Iowa Children's Hospital



KHAK Radiothon Set This Week
The broadcast team of the Brain and the Bear of KHAK-FM in Cedar Rapids will accept donations from listeners to support University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network during their 10th annual radiothon broadcast live from the Atrium Lobby on the first level of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City September 12 to 15.

The marathon broadcast will begin at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, and continue from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until its conclusion at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 15.

Proceeds of the 98-hour event will benefit patients of University of Iowa Children's Hospital at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics.

Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. For more information about how you can support the Children's Miracle Network cause, contact Michelle Altmaier at 3l9-335-9003, or you can make a donation online.

More than 140,000 children receive care at University of Iowa Children's Hospital each year.

"All of our radiothons have been special to us, but our 10th radiothon will be truly significant and we are committed to making it the best one yet," said The Bear.

"We feel strongly that about helping kids and families and that is why we are still excited about doing this radiothon for the tenth time," added The Brain.

The Brain and The Bear will share the stories of former and current patients of University of Iowa Children's Hospital, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children.

Y105 Radiothon Raises $79,000 for University of Iowa Children's Hospital
Residents of the tri-state area around Dubuque streamed into Kennedy Mall during the Y105-FM Radiothon for Kids served by University of Iowa Children's Hospital during their marathon broadcast Aug. 29-Sept. 1, helping the Y105-FM morning team, led by Chris Farber and Rachel Redford, raise more than $79,000.

Chris and Rachel shared the stories of patients, families and University of Iowa Children's Hospital staff beginning at 6 a.m. August 30 and concluding at 5 p.m. September 1. The event marked the fifth time that Y105-FM has broadcast a radiothon to help make a difference in the hospital experience of children from across the region.

"I am deeply grateful to our listeners for their support of children and their families at University of Iowa Children's Hospital," said Scott Lindahl, Y105 station manager. "Their generosity is truly inspirational."

Local schools, businesses and individuals all made donations totaling $79,492 during the event. Radiothon proceeds help create new programs for children and support ongoing research, enhancements to patient stays through services such as pain management, and patient education.
