The 10th annual radiothon broadcast by KHAK-FM in Cedar Rapids raised $185,006 from listeners to support patients and their families at University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. The Brain and Bob James reported live from the Atrium Lobby on the first level of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City September 12 through 15. Proceeds of the 98-hour event will benefit patients of University of Iowa Children's Hospital at UI Hospitals and Clinics and its outreach clinics. Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 140,000 children receive care at University of Iowa Children's Hospital each year. "As always, we stand in awe of the generosity of our listeners and their commitment to patients and families at University of Iowa Children's Hospital," said James of KHAK-FM. "The stories of these kids and the care they received from the professionals here obviously touched all of them and us on a very profound level." The KHAK-FM crew shared the stories of former and current patients of University of Iowa Children's Hospital, and the dedicated physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who care for them. "We care for thousands of children from Eastern Iowa each year, and the generosity of KHAK staff and their listeners helps us carry on that important work," said Michael Artman, MD, Physician-in-Chief, University of Iowa Children's Hospital. "I am impressed by their dedication and all of us are grateful for their commitment." Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children.
