Representatives of UI Family Care Center-North Liberty and UI Sports Medicine will donate $1,050 to several area schools as part of a program that supports communities served by the clinic. The donated funds come from the proceeds of the clinic's sports physical examination service held at the UI Family Care Center in North Liberty. A total of 42 high school athletes from several local communities received their pre-participation physicals this summer. The sports physicals service is part of the Sports Medicine program at UI Family Care Center-North Liberty. The primary focus of the North Liberty Sports Medicine Clinic is the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries for high school athletes and adults. Other sports medicine-related services include exercise stress testing and joint injections. The schools receiving the donations to their athletics programs include Clear Creek-Amana High School in Tiffin, North Central Junior High School in North Liberty, Northwest Junior High School in Coralville and West High School in Iowa City. "School officials tell us that they are very pleased to receive these donations because every little bit helps with their extremely tight budgets," said Terry Protextor, executive director of UI Community Medical Services. "We are glad to play an active role in our community. This is just one more way that we can give back to our communities," added Britt Marcussen, MD, with UI Family Care Center-North Liberty, who helped provide the physical examinations. Marcussen is available daily to see sports-related injuries and care for your family's general health care needs. Same-day appointments are usually available, as are on-site X-ray services. When necessary, referrals to UI Sports Medicine specialists are made in a streamlined manner. For more information or an appointment with Marcussen, call 319-626-5680. |
