UI Sports Medicine Center Offers
Women's Fitness Seminar

Specialists with the UI Sports Medicine Center will present a special, free community seminar on fitness for women and preventing problems that are common among female athletes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the Larson Conference Room on the lower level of the John Pappajohn Pavilion in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Some young women find it difficult to balance sports and the needs of their bodies, which can lead to the female athlete triad—disordered eating, osteoporosis, and loss of their menstrual period.

UI Sports Medicine specialists George Phillips, MD, Andrea Wilson, PA, and Kathy Mellen, RD, will help women learn how to avoid the female athlete triad. The panel will cover topics such as:

  • Defining the female athlete triad
  • Common injuries in female athletes
  • Fueling the female athlete

The panel also will hold a questions-and-answers session following the presentation.

Call UI Health Access at 319-384-8442 or 800-777-8442 to register for this free seminar and receive directions. A light snack will be provided.
