UI Physicians, Volunteer Are
Named Corridor Heroes


Two physicians and a leading volunteer from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics received "HealthCare Heroes Awards" during the Corridor Healthcare Summit in Cedar Rapids.

The honorees include:

Advancements in Health Care: Laurie Fajardo, MD, professor and head of the UI Department of Radiology, is one of the leading researchers in the field of breast imaging and a pioneer in developing new technology to help better detect breast cancer earlier.

Physician: Ignacio Ponseti, MD, professor in the UI Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, is recognized worldwide for his innovative, non-surgical treatment for clubfoot and his more than 60 years of contributions to the specialty of orthopaedics.

Volunteer: Helen Rossi played a crucial role in the development of Volunteer Services at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Her devoted and generous support for patients and their families resulted in the Helen K. Rossi Volunteer Guest House being named in her honor.
