UI Hospitals and Clinics
Says "Thanks" to Volunteers

Faculty and staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will take time to thank volunteers for their service to Iowa's only comprehensive academic health center when they observe National Volunteer Week, April 15 through 21.

In the last fiscal year, 1,366 volunteers donated 88,911 hours of service to patients and their families receiving care at UI Hospitals and Clinics. If they had received payment for their efforts, the equivalent financial value of these services would exceed $1.6 million.

"As if that wasn't enough, our volunteers also contributed more than $150,000 to support programs and services to benefit patients and their families at UI Hospitals and Clinics last year," said Mary Ameche, director of Volunteer Services at UI Hospitals and Clinics. "It would be literally impossible to thank them enough for all they do!"

In addition, Volunteer Services provided more than $20,000 in scholarships to high school and college student volunteers last year. Volunteer Services at UI Hospitals and Clinics began serving patients and families in 1972.
