Special UI Event to Honor Coach Fry,
|

|
It will be an evening to remember on June 22 when the University of Iowa's "football family" and fans gather to honor the Hawkeyes' legendary former coach, Hayden Fry, and raise funds to support prostate cancer research. "Highly Toasted, Lightly Roasted" will salute the football coach with the most wins in UI history. The evening's festivities in the Coral Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel Conference Center in Coralville will open with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and a program at 8 p.m. Proceeds from the event will support the work of the J. Hayden Fry Center for Prostate Cancer Research, a part of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa. Established in 2005 and supported in part by an endowed fund established through the UI Foundation, the Fry Center honors the Iowa coaching great who retired in 1998. Tickets for the June 22 event are $125 per person. VIP tables that seat 10 guests are available for $5,000. VIP guests will also attend a special reception with Coach Fry, former Hawkeye players, and other celebrity guests. VIP guests will receive photographs of themselves with Coach Fry. To make reservations, contact Kerry Ostlund at 319-335-3305, 800-648-6973, or karen-ostlund@uiowa.edu. Like thousands of men in Iowa and across the country, Fry's life has been touched by prostate cancer. He is dedicated to supporting research initiatives that will lead to more effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure. "I'm convinced that we are on the verge of enormous breakthroughs in understanding, treating and even curing prostate cancer," Fry said. "With continued support, I am equally convinced that many of those breakthroughs are going to happen right here at The University of Iowa." The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers are recognized as the leaders in developing new approaches to cancer prevention and cancer care, conducting leading-edge research and educating the public about cancer. The UI acknowledges the UI Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the University. |
