UI Volleyball Head Coach Cindy Fredrick and the University of Iowa volleyball team announced that its match against Wisconsin, Saturday, October 13, will be “Attacking Breast Cancer” night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game will start at 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink. Any fan wearing pink will be automatically entered in a raffle to win an assortment of prizes. The first 500 fans will also receive free pink rally towels.
Iowa will also use four pink volleyballs during warm-ups and junior libero UI Volleyball Head Coach Cindy Fredrick will wear a pink jersey during the match.
The University of Iowa Athletic Department will donate $1 to the Holden Cancer Center for every fan over 1,000 in attendance.
In addition, volleyball memorabilia from Saturday’s game are available for auction on the Hawkeye Sports.com site. All proceeds will benefit the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Bidding closes October 17. Available for auction are:
- Four game-used pink volleyballs from the Iowa-Wisconsin volleyball "Attacking Breast Cancer" match, autographed and/or personalized by Coach Fredrick to the winning bidder
- One game-used pink libero volleyball jersey from the Iowa-Wisconsin volleyball "Attacking Breast Cancer" match, autographed and/or personalized by Coach Fredrick to the winning bidder
“This is such a great event,” Fredrick said. “It provides our team a chance to acknowledge the work being done by the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Cancer affects so many lives and we are happy to be able to give back to both The University of Iowa and to the community. We hope people will join in supporting not only the Iowa volleyball team in our match against Wisconsin, but the Holden Cancer Center as well.”
