The Iowa Consortium for Comprehensive Cancer Control (ICCCC) recently received an important award from C-Change, a national multi-sector cancer collaborative at C-Change’s annual meeting in Washington, DC.
The Exemplary State Comprehensive Cancer Control Award recognizes ICCCC efforts to reduce the burden of cancer in Iowa through implementation of the state’s cancer control plan. George Weiner, MD, ICCCC chair, accepted the award in behalf of the ICCCC. Weiner also serves as director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Iowa is one of just two states to receive the prestigious honor in 2007.
The ICCCC is composed of more than 50 organizations and 100 individuals working together to decrease the burden of cancer for Iowans.
Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers are recognized as the leaders in developing new approaches to cancer prevention and cancer care, conducting leading-edge research and educating the public about cancer.
