Sports Medicine Ethics Symposium
Geared to Athletes, Coaches, and Parents

When should an injured athlete return to a game? What is a performance enhancement supplement? Does a newscast that reports an athlete’s injury violate their rights as a patient?

Join UI Sports Medicine experts as they discuss these topics and more at a sports medicine ethics symposium starting at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Marriott Hotel in Coralville. Moderated by the chair of the UI Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Department, Joseph Buckwalter, MD, the panel includes:

  • Dan Gable, former UI wrestling coach and Olympic champion
  • Norm Granger, former Iowa Hawkeye and Dallas Cowboy
  • Ned Amendola, MD, director of UI Sports Medicine
  • Paul Baumert, MD, consultant with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and a UI team physician
  • William Garrett, MD, professor of orthopaedic surgery and team physician at Duke University Sports Medicine
  • Dan Foster, director of athletic training education

Tailored for athletes, coaches, and parents, this seminar will include a question and answer session. This seminar is free, walk-ins are welcome.
