UI Dance Marathon Begins February 1
More than 1,500 University of Iowa students will participate in the 14th annual UI Dance Marathon February 1 through 2 in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.
Dance Marathon is a nationwide, student-run philanthropy that raises money for the Children's Miracle Network. The UI Dance Marathon supports programs that benefit children with cancer, and their families, at UI Children's Hospital. The program has raised $5.4 million and helped more than 600 families.
Last year, UI Dance Marathon raised more than $880,000, a record for the event. This year, organizers hope to raise $1 million.

Iowa State Students 'Kicked it for the Kids' January 26
Nearly 1,000 students at Iowa State University had no problem staying warm during their 11th annual ISU Dance Marathon, which ran for 15 hours on Saturday, January 26, in the ISU Memorial Union.
Dance Marathon is ISU's largest student philanthropic event. Over the past 10 years, nearly $900,000 has been raised for University of Iowa Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network.
Each participating student must raise at least $200 before the dancing begins in order to attend the fun-filled day of music, games, and, live entertainment.
In addition, more than 160 family members and children who received treatment at UI Children's Hospital attended to share their stories and meet hundreds of dancing students. Last year, more than 500 students raised $160,000 through the ISU Dance Marathon.
Dance Marathon is a nationwide, student-run philanthropy that raises money for Children's Miracle Network, which helps children and their families cope with life-threatening illnesses and disease. Dance Marathon for Children's Miracle Network made its debut at Iowa State 10 years ago. ISU Dance Marathon is funded by the university's Government of the Student Body.
Augustana College Dance Marathon Raises $30,000
More than 400 dancers at the Augustana College Dance Marathon in Rock Island, Ill. raised $30,907 January 12 during the six-hour event at the PepsioCo Center on campus to benefit University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
In addition to the dancers, more than 40 family members attended the fifth annual Augustana College Dance Marathon. All of the proceeds benefit patients and their families receiving care at UI Children's Hospital.
Dance Marathon is the largest philanthropic event on the Augustana College campus. Students already had raised more than $43,000 in the past four years to benefit UI Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network. Dance Marathon organizers at Augustana College substantially exceeded their fundraising goal of $20,000 for the 2008 event.
Each registered dancer had to each raise at least $75 in order to participate.

Valley, Waukee students Hold Mini-Dance Marathon
An estimated 250 students from Valley High School, Des Moines, and Waukee High School, Waukee, held their first joint Mini-Dance Marathon Friday, January 25, at Valley High School. Students at Valley held their first 12-hour Mini-Dance Marathon four years ago to benefit patients and their families receiving care at University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City. |
