National Nurses Week Spotlights Nursing Achievements

During National Nurses Week, May 6 through 12, UI Hospitals and Clinics honors its nurses for their unmatched commitment to quality, safety, and patient-focused care. The Salute to Nurses will be held Monday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pappajohn Entrance Lobby (Elevator I, Level 1)

For 365 days a year, UI Hospitals and Clinics nurses combine their vast knowledge of today’s complex technologies with the gentle touch of compassionate care to make the best possible care available to patients.

At 3 p.m. Monday, the Magnet Tapestry of Excellence will be unveiled. The Tapestry of Excellence was developed as part of UI Hospitals and Clinics Magnet recertification process. The Magnet Quilt, stitched by more than 600 faculty and staff members from across UI Hospitals and Clinics, will be mounted, encased for protection, and installed so it can last for many years.

During the salute, UI Hospitals and Clinics also honors "100 Great Iowa Nurses" and are proud that seven of them come from The University of Iowa.

They are:

  • Linda Crowley, RNC, BSN
  • Ami Gaarde, RN, BSN, OCN
  • Carolyn Laxson, RN, MA, CCTC
  • Patricia Pezzella, RN, BSN, CWON
