The Children's Miracle Network Celebration will air Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mediacom Connections as part of a statewide effort to raise support for University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
Each year Children's Miracle Network uses a telethon to bring people together to celebrate the life-saving work of specialty children's hospitals. All contributions raised through Mediacom's broadcast of the Children's Miracle Network Celebration remain in Iowa to benefit the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City. The hospital and its network of outreach clinics throughout the state provide specialized treatment and care to more than 140,000 children each year, serving children and families throughout Iowa and neighboring states.
Mediacom's unique telethon will include:
- Stories of Iowa children who have triumphed over diseases and injures. Three Waterloo-area families will be featured in an Iowa-specific edition of the Children's Miracle Network Celebration. Steve and Dianna Minikus of Denver, Lee and Lynette Lee of Evansdale, and Rhonda and Rick Koepke of Waverly are among the Iowa families who have chosen to share their experiences to show the impact of Iowa's premier children's hospital and research center for pediatric medicine.
- A tour of the newly renovated in-patient pediatrics unit at the UI Children's Hospital
- Highlights of the Iowa Dance Marathon
In combination with the Iowa-specific features, viewers will see the national telethon hosted by Marie Osmond and brother Donny Osmond, with entertainment by the Jonas Brothers.
The telethon will be broadcast in seven-hour sessions repeated over two days starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, and at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 1. Viewers will see a local phone number and Web site as Iowa hosts discuss ways to support patient-related services and pediatric research at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
"The work of the Children's Miracle Network has a significant impact on children's lives. Iowans can be proud that the children's hospital at the University of Iowa opens its doors to families of all backgrounds," said Doug Frank, Mediacom regional vice president in Cedar Rapids. "We encourage Iowans to join Mediacom in contributing to this excellent charity that directly benefits children in our state and region."
The Celebration can be seen in Iowa City on channel 74, in Mason City on channel 5. For other locations across Iowa, check your local listing. Viewers may call their support on 800-456-2772.
