Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, has been appointed deputy director for clinical care for Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI.

In this new role, Buatti oversees and coordinates all clinical activities in Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. He also will work with medical center and cancer center leadership to develop a plan to provide excellent care to cancer patients while growing volume in the cancer service line.

"Dr. Buatti has done a tremendous job creating a patient-centered environment and delivering state-of-the-art cancer care in our Center of Excellence in Image-Guided Radiation Therapy. He is a great addition to our Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center leadership team," Weiner said.

Weiner Named to Cancer Clinical Trials Leadership Group

George Weiner, MD, director of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer at the University of Iowa, will join a group of cancer center leaders nationwide who are looking at ways to expedite the process of cancer clinical trials in the United States.

Weiner will serve on the Operational Efficiency Working Group of the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Clinical Trials Working Group, which aims to identify and reduce institutional or other factors that prolong the time from a clinical trial's conceptual approval to actual patient recruitment.
