UI Health Care News: Week of October 6, 2008

October Is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Just five years ago, there were standard approaches when it came to breast cancer screening and treatment. But with our understanding of genetics, new knowledge about the biology of cancer, and breakthroughs in imaging technology, those same approaches are now being combined in new and exciting ways.

The result is better detection for patients at high-risk and more treatment options that take an individual woman’s needs into account. But it takes a team of specialists to deliver this state-of-the-art care.

"Tailored Therapy: The New Way To Treat Breast Cancer" will be the focus of the next Health For Your Lifetime seminar Wednesday, October 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 1220 First Avenue, Coralville.

Experts from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will discuss how the UI Breast Health Clinic team working together to offer the latest in diagnostics and tailor treatments to fit a woman's individual needs.

Advance registration for this free community seminar is encouraged. To register, call 319-356-1049 or 877-633-4692) or e-mail to medicine-RSVP@uiowa.edu.
