The Eastern Iowa Retreat and Relax Stroke Camp lets stroke survivors and their caregivers enjoy a weekend retreat filled with relaxation, activities, learning, and fellowship. The camp, May 1 through 3 at Camp Courageous of Iowa; is jointly sponsored by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Cedar Rapids’ St. Luke’s Hospital, and Mercy Medical Center.
Living with the effects of stroke can be isolating for both the stroke survivor and the caregivers. The Retreat and Relax Stroke Camp provides a supportive atmosphere where they can meet other survivors and caregivers and learn about strategies and techniques to address their challenges. The camp features healthy meals and structured group activities, including games, music, movies, crafts, and professional entertainment, as well as free time to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The Eastern Iowa Stroke Camp will include education programs for survivors and caregivers. Physicians, nurses, speech therapists, and other experts will lead panel and group discussions on speech and memory support, balance and falls, depression and mental health, and positive thinking.
