During the 2009 University of Iowa football season, University of Iowa Children's Hospital will partner with the Iowa Hawkeyes on a new program, Kid Captain, to honor current or former pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories.
The Kid Captain program gives children treated at UI Children’s Hospital the opportunity to take the field with the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium.
Children selected as a Kid Captain will receive four game tickets and parking accommodations to attend a 2009 Iowa Hawkeye home football game. The Kid Captain will have pre-game field access and photo opportunities, and will be an honored guest for the pre-game coin toss at mid-field. Kid Captains also will receive a commemorative jersey.
"Every day, we hear from parents and families about their remarkable, life-changing experiences at UI Children's Hospital and the caring relationships with doctors, nurses and others that helped sustain children and families through difficult times," said Michael Artman, MD, physician-in-chief at UI Children's Hospital and professor and head of pediatrics at the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. "We are proud to partner with UI Athletics in developing such a wonderful opportunity to honor our patients and share their incredible stories."
Only parents or guardians may nominate a child to be a Kid Captain. Children selected as a Kid Captain must be available to attend in person one of the home Iowa football games. Nominations for the Kid Captain program must be received by August 16. |
