The 2009 "Amish Harvest Tour to Cure Cancer Courage Ridehonoring the courage of Seth A. Bailey and others affected by sarcoma and other types of cancer, will be held Saturday, September 26, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning and ending at the Iowa Mennonite School, 1421 540th Street SW, near Kalona, Iowa.
The Courage Ride is for amateur and experienced bike enthusiasts alike. Riders will choose to ride 16, 24, 39, 67, or 95 miles. The ride is hosted by Bicyclist of Iowa City. The registration fee is $50. Registration is available online and includes:
- Dad's Belgian Waffle Breakfast
- Catered lunch and snacks
- SAG support
- Live music at the Iowa Mennonite School, Wellman, and at rest stops
- Free bike socks
For those riding longer routes, lunch will be included at Wellman. Riders on shorter routes will have lunch at the Iowa Mennonite School.
The honorary chair for the ride is UI physician Mohammed Milhem, MD, who cares for patients affected by sarcoma and studies the disease. Sarcoma, a cancer that arises in the bones and soft tissues, took Bailey's life. All proceeds support research at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
