The University of Iowa Cystic Fibrosis Center, based at UI Children's Hospital, received the 2009 Quality Care Award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The award honors institutions that demonstrate sustained quality improvement efforts that lead to the best care for patients with cystic fibrosis.
The UI center is noted for its multidisciplinary team approach that includes regular communication among caregivers, input from patients and their families, and ongoing review of treatment outcomes to improve consistency and quality in care delivery.
Miles Weinberger, MD, and Richard Ahrens, MD, faculty-physicians with UI Children's Hospital, co-direct the UI Cystic Fibrosis Center. Douglas Hornick, MD, leads the center's adult program.
