Mini Med School Open to Children and Adults

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Children's Hospital will present a Mini Medical School program for parents and kids on juvenile diabetes on Saturday, February 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at Prem Sahai Auditorium in the UI Carver College of Medicine Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF).

There is no cost to participate in the Saturday morning interactive educational program but space is limited and reservations will be taken on a fist come, first served basis. Please make your reservation online by Friday, January 29.

The kid's program is aimed at students from kindergarten through 12th grade and will explore hands-on science and medical experiences. They will explore hands-on stations where they will work with a simulated baby, learn how to tie a surgical knot, and play a medical Wii game with current UI Health Care faculty, staff and students.

Adults will learn about the latest juvenile diabetes research, discoveries and treatments for a better understanding of the disease. The program will be led by Eva Tsalikian, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, UI Carver College of Medicine Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, and Director, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes.

The programs for children and adults will run concurrently.

This program is brought to you in partnership with University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa Children's Hospital and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
