Momany Is UI Student Employee of the Year

Allison Momany, a research assistant in pediatrics, has been named UI Student Employee of the Year. A junior majoring in psychology, Momany works in the lab of Jeff Murray, MD, managing the genetic analysis of samples obtained from preterm birth infants and their families. The UI employs about 8,000 students in hourly positions.

Tabor Honored as Dietitian of the Year

Anne Tabor, MPH, RD/LD, Nutritionist and Supervisor of Center for Disabilities and Development Nutrition Services and Speech/Language Services, has received the 2010 Recognized Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award from the Iowa Dietetic Association.

Scott-Conner Named Master Educator

Carol Scott-Conner, MD, PhD, a professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery and a member of the Breast Cancer Care Program, has received the Jeffrey L. Ponsky Master Educator Award for 2010. The honor is awarded by The Education and Research Foundation of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. The award recognizes Scott-Conner for exemplifying Ponsky's pioneer leadership spirit and dedication to the development and teaching of surgical endoscopy.

Neurosurgery, Neurology Honored by Brain Injury Group

The Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology were recently honored by the Brain Injury Association of Iowa for their longstanding commitment to clinical care and research on behalf of patients with brain injury and their families.

The departments were each named "Corporation or Organization of the Year" by the Brain Injury Association of Iowa. This award is one of several presented annually by the association to individuals and organizations who demonstrate exceptional service or support to Iowans with brain injury and their families.

Heistad Earns Award for High Blood Pressure Research

Donald Heistad, MD, the Zahn Professor of Cardiology, professor of internal medicine and pharmacology, and deputy director of the UI Cardiovascular Center, has been awarded the Irvine Page Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Society of Hypertension.

Heistad was honored for his research, which has helped build the foundation for understanding how blood vessels that supply blood to the brain adapt to or have problems as a result of high blood pressure.

Iannettoni to Lead UI Heart and Vascular Center

Mark Iannettoni, MD, MBA, has been named Interim Physician Executive Director of the UI Heart and Vascular Center. Iannettoni is also Professor and Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Deann Montchal will continue to provide administrative leadership within the Heart and Vascular Center as Chief of Operations, reporting to Dr. Iannettoni and John Staley, Interim Chief Operating Officer, UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Hohl Will Lead Society

Raymond J. Hohl, MD, PhD, Professor of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology and Associate Chair of Internal Medicine, has been appointed president of The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) for a one-year term. The ASCPT is the leading forum for the exchange, development, and integration of translational science in drug development—from drug discovery to safe and effective use.

Hohl also holds the Holden Family Chair and is associate director of clinical and translational research in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
