Three specialty areas at University of Iowa Children's Hospital have been ranked in U.S.News & World Report's 2010-2011 edition of "America's Best Children's Hospitals." UI Children's Hospital is the only hospital in Iowa to be ranked by U.S.News & World Report for children's care.

The magazine ranked UI Children's Hospital:

• 23rd in the nation in neonatology—care for newborn infants, especially critically ill, low birth weight and premature babies. Jeffrey Segar, MD, leads the Division of Neonatology.
• 24th in orthopedics—care of the musculoskeletal system: bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. Care is given through a partnership with the UI Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at UI Hospitals and Clinics under the direction of Stuart Weinstein, MD, and Department Head Joseph Buckwalter, MD.
• 25th in pulmonology—care of diseases of the lungs and respiratory tract. Miles Weinberger, MD, is director of the Division of Allergy and Pulmonology.

The 2010-11 "Best Children's Hospitals" rankings will be published in the August print issue of U.S.News & World Report, available on newsstands July 27.

"This is well-deserved recognition for the physicians, nurses, and staff in these specialty areas," said Michael Artman, MD, physician-in-chief at UI Children's Hospital and professor and head of pediatrics at the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. "This distinction underscores our continuing commitment to patients and their families. That holds true for all primary and specialty care areas across UI Children's Hospital."

The specialty rankings in "America's Best Children's Hospitals" are weighted, using a combination of reputation, outcome and care-related measures.
