UI Hospitals and Clinics has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery and a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement by Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa.

The designation recognizes medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality health care. Experts in the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at UI Hospitals and Clinics offer comprehensive spine surgery,  including discectomy, fusion and decompression procedures. Experts in orthopaedics and rehabilitation also provide and knee and hip replacement services, including total knee  and total hip replacements.
