Dance Marathon Program Wins Governor's Volunteer Award

Dance Marathon, a Children's Miracle Network sponsored program at UI Children's Hospital, has received a Governor's Volunteer Award from Iowa Governor Chet Culver. Dance Marathon was selected for the Group Award, and students and advisors from the organization were recognized at a July 22 ceremony in Cedar Rapids.

Since 1995, Dance Marathon has raised more than $8.6 million for Children's Miracle Network, which supports UI Children's Hospital in improving the lives of pediatric patients.

Six universities and colleges around the region participate in Dance Marathon, which allows student volunteers to both raise funds and celebrate fundraising efforts that take place throughout the school year. All money raised from Augustana College, Central College, Iowa State University, Loras College, University of Iowa and Wartburg College directly benefits patients and families at UI Children's Hospital.

Tom Cilek, senior vice president of West Bank in Iowa City, nominated Dance Marathon for the award.
