On Aug. 27, at an Iowa City cemetery, family members, friends, medical students and faculty members gathered to honor those who donated their bodies for study and research at the UI Carver College of Medicine.
For more than 40 years, the Deeded Body Program has provided an indispensable aid in medical teaching and research by organizing anatomical donations. The bodies of generous donors play a major role in the education of more than 800 students and physicians at the UI each year.
Though some restrictions may apply, anyone over the age of 18 may donate their body for medical education programs, provided they have completed and filed a deed of disposition with the UI Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology.
