PACEMAKER: Summer 2004

Where Moms come first

There's no place like a 'home away from home' for delivering a baby.

That's the philosophy behind the newly opened UI Maternity Center, located at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. "Our center offers moms- and dads-to-be all the comforts of home with the safety and security of the highest quality obstetrical care," said Jennifer Niebyl, M.D., head of obstetrics and gynecology.

Highlights include:

  • High level security
  • Home-like room environments
  • Labor support services
  • Nurse midwives
  • Obstetricians
  • Family practitioners
  • High-risk pregnancy specialists
  • Advanced fetal monitoring system
  • Dedicated ultrasound room
  • Internet access
  • A la carte room service
  • Whirlpools
  • Custom made beds

"The new UI Maternity Center offers the most advanced and comprehensive obstetrical care available anywhere in a comfortable, nurturing environment," Niebyl said.
