Helping athletes heal

UI Sports Medicine Center helps people with active lifestyles return to action quickly

Physicians from UI Sports Medicine already treat athletes in the NBA and maor league baseball, as well as serving as the primary and orthopaedic physicians for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Now, these same experts have teamed up to make their services more accessible and convenient for high school athletes, weekend warriors, recreational athletes, and anyone who pursues an active lifestyle.

It began Sept. 7, 2004, with the opening of the UI Sports Medicine Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Center brings together experts from different medical disciplines who treat athletes of all levels and ages into one convenient location for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of active minded people.

“We have assembled a multidisciplinary team of experts with experience that is unsurpassed in the area,” said Ned Amendola, M.D., medical director of the UI Sports Medicine Center.

Organized by the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, the Center’s pool of expertise includes orthopaedic surgeons, athletic trainers, primary care physicians, physician assistants, and rehabilitation therapists.

Specialists will treat all musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, including all sport-related medical problems. Treatment may include preventive measures, rehabilitation, exercise prescription, medical management or surgery.

For more information, patients and families should call UI Health Access. For a consultation or appointment, physicians should call UI Consult.
