What patient care services are provided by your heart failure team?
The Cardiomyopathy Treatment Program provides a comprehensive set of services for people who have diagnoses of heart failure or pulmonary hypertension. Our subspecialty team provides inpatient and outpatient treatments including access to new drugs and devices through clinical trials, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory pumps (also known as ventricular assist devices). We work closely with cardiothoracic surgery and pulmonary medicine teams to optimize treatment for each patient.
What makes the planned new UI Heart and Vascular Center Unique?
The UI Heart and Vascular Center provides seamless multidisciplinary care of patients with circulatory disease in hospital and clinic settings. It provides an infrastructure for highly trained physicians to work more closely in the delivery of patient care and the development of new programs.
Who are you recruiting to your heart failure team?
We are currently recruiting a clinician scientist and a clinical expert in heart failure and transplantation.
Why are clinical trials important to the program?
Clinical trials give patients access to the latest treatments for conditions that have failed to respond to standard therapies. We currently offer trials studying both drugs and devices for the treatment of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.
What other projects are under way?
A new patient registry and sample repository is now enrolling patients with heart disease. This “biobank” will allow physician scientists to study cellular and molecular pathways that are key understanding human heart disease.
