Patient service a top priority at the newly opened Ambulatory Surgery Center

The region’s finest experts in outpatient surgery.

World-class facilities and technologies.

A staff committed to excellent service.

Welcome to the sparkling new Ambulatory Surgery Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Here, teams of highly trained outpatient surgery specialists perform everything from ear tube insertions to gallbladder removals to hernia repairs.

No overnight hospital stay is required.

Notable features within the $39 million facility include:

  • Six outpatient operating rooms with integrated imaging and communications systems that allow doctors to consult with specialists around the corner and around the globe
  • Separate adult and pediatric lounges, with internet access
  • Access to the depth and breadth of one of “America’s Best Hospitals” and highly ranked UI Children’s Hospital
  • Free valet parking the day of surgery

Located on the fourth level of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion, the Center is the first full-service, multi-specialty facility of its type in Iowa City.

Medical director Douglas Merrill, MD, presides over a team approach involving physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other professional caregivers specially trained for outpatient surgical care.
