PACEMAKER: Summer 2007 Worth NotingTheresa Brennan, MD, was appointed the John W. Colloton Associate Professor in Clinical Cardiology. Timothy Gaillard became a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Laurie Fajardo, MD, Ignacio Ponseti, MD, and Volunteer Helen Rossi, received “Healthcare Heroes Awards” during the Corridor HealthCare Summit in Cedar Rapids. Ponseti also received the Children's Miracle Achievement Award during a ceremonies in Orlando, Florida. Frederick Goldman, MD, was one of seven leading scientific investigators worldwide to receive a “Talents” grant from Talecris Biotherapeutics. The Iowa Lion’s Eye Bank received the Iowa Medical Society’s Washington Freeman Peck Award for 2007. Malik Juweid, MD, was cited by Faculty of 1000 Medicine for authoring one of the 10 best published papers inhematology and oncology. UI nurses Gail Crowe; Barbara Hannon; Beverly Herman; Vicki Kraus; Gayle Nelson; Susan Olson; Alison Pauley; Margaret Raab; Traci Stewart; and Rich Young were included in the third annual listing of “100 Great Iowa Nurses.” Des Moines businessman Marvin Pomerantz committed $4 million to create the John W. Colloton Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine and to benefit the UI College of Public Health. Robert Rodnitzky, MD, a professor of neurology and director of the Movement Disorders Division, was named head of the Department of Neurology.
