PACEMAKER: Fall 2008

Kates New CEO

Kenneth P. Kates has been named the new associate vice president and chief executive officer of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, effective Sept. 15, 2008.

Kates has more than 30 years of experience in academic health care, including administrative positions at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System, most recently as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

“Ken is ideally qualified to lead the hospital, and I look forward to working with him as part of the University of Iowa Health Care team,” said Jean Robillard, MD, UI Vice President for Medical Affairs.

Kates succeeds Gordon Williams, who had served as interim CEO since January. Williams will become a senior advisor to Robillard.
