Are you concerned about too much sun exposure?
Do you know someone who has diagnosed with sarcoma?
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has organized two new multi-disciplinary clinics that may be able to help.
The Melanoma Clinic serves people at risk for melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer. High-risk groups include road and construction workers, farmers, and those who tan or vacation often in warm climates—anyone who gets lots of sun exposure.
Clinic specialists include dermatologists, ophthalmologists, otolaryngology-head and neck cancer specialists, oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists.
The clinic offers prevention information and screening as well as treatment.
The Sarcoma Clinic treats patients with cancers that appear in the bones and soft tissues. Multi-disciplinary specialists collaborate to create the best plan of care, provide aggressive treatments, and offer opportunities to volunteer for clinical trials.
Additional support is available from palliative care and rehabilitation specialists.
UI's sarcoma program has received designation from the Sarcoma Alliance for Research Through Collaboration, giving UI specialists access to more data for research and offering patients more opportunities to participate in clinical trials.
Both clinics are affiliated with Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Iowa's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center.
