High ranking for child care
After surveying over 100 children's hospitals to determine where hospitalized children can get the best care, Parents magazine has concluded that University of Iowa Children's Hospital ranks 20 th on the list. The ranking appeared in the February 2009 issue, which also rated the pediatric emergency care at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics fifth nationally. The Parents children's hospital survey provides the most extensive data-driven comparison of children's hospitals to date. All surveyed hospitals were members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions.

Dance Marathon tops $1 million
More than 800 patients and family members cared for at University of Iowa Children's Hospital joined 1,320 dancers for the 24-hour UI Dance Marathon, raising more than $1 million. A highlight was the "graduation" of 15 children who are celebrating being cancer-free at least five years. In addition, 705 unrelated bone marrow donors were recruited by the Iowa Marrow Donor Program during the event. Over the past 15 years, UI Dance Marathon has raised more than $7.5 million to support pediatric oncology patients and their families.

Revenue efficiencies pay dividends
University of Iowa Health Care's integrated approach to revenue management is leading to unprecedented financial efficiencies and garnering national recognition. The UI Health Care Revenue Integrity team has recovered more than $20 million in hospital payments from insurers that UI Health Care would not have received otherwise in the past four years, said Tom Mentz, director of Revenue Integrity. The team also recovered over $1 million in physician payments and won a national Best Practice Award from Medical Present Value, Inc., creators of the software used to audit physician reimbursement
