Premier prostate cancer care
Urology Times (April 2009) includes Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa among 15 "clinical centers of excellence" for prostate cancer care. Richard Williams, MD, head of Urology, noted that collaboration between members of his department and others, including medical oncology and radiation oncology, plays a pivotal role in premier care for prostate cancer patients.

UI Heart and Vascular Center gets the gold
The UI Heart and Vascular Center has received the American Heart Association's "Get with the Guidelines–Coronary Artery Disease Gold Performance Achievement Award." The award recognizes the Center's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that improves the treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary disease and reduces their risk of recurrent heart attacks or death.

Trauma service earns highest status
The Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons has re-verified University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a Level I (highest) trauma center for both adults and children. The renewal means that UI Children's Hospital was the first and continues to be the only facility in the state to earn designation as a Level I trauma center for pediatrics.
