About PACEMAKER

Welcome to PACEMAKER magazine on the Web. Please use these pages to learn more about important medical advances and health care services available through University of Iowa Health Care, the patient care partnership between UI Hospitals and Clinics and the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. Together, these partners provide patient-centered care, medical education, and biomedical research to the people of Iowa and beyond.

Why is it called PACEMAKER?
The name denotes the mark of a leader and reflects the progressive spirit of one of America's premier academic health care centers. It does not, as some people occasionally ask, derive from the well-known heart pacing device.

What is PACEMAKER's purpose?
To communicate news and tell patient care success stories that illustrate the breadth and depth of the clinical services, medical technologies, research breakthroughs, and clinical trial opportunities available through Iowa’s only comprehensive academic medical center.

How often is PACEMAKER published?
Four times a year—Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

How long has PACEMAKER magazine been published?
Continuously since the first issue was published in July 1974.

Who receives PACEMAKER?
The printed version is mailed to more than 26,000 referrers and other health care professionals in Iowa and adjoining states, leaders in academic medicine nationwide, University of Iowa alums from around the continental United States, friends, political and business leaders, health care consumers and former patients who express an interest in receiving the publication, and University of Iowa Health Care faculty, staff, and volunteers.

Is there a charge for receiving PACEMAKER?
No. Subscriptions are free to persons living within the continental United States who are interested in PACEMAKER’s content. To receive or stop receiving PACEMAKER, please use this convenient online link, call 319-356-1009, e-mail PACEMAKER@uiowa.edu, or contact us at:
