Did you know . . .

Breast cancer is the most common female cancer. Of the estimated 7,400 new cases of cancer in Iowa this year, 2,300 are breast cancer, accounting for 31.1 percent of the total. Of the estimated cancer deaths, 460 or 15.3 percent are attributed to breast cancer. See the story inside for more information. (Cancer Registry of Iowa: 2001)

About 11 million Americans are diagnosed with SAD, seasonal affective disorder. Women with SAD outnumber men four to one. Location also seems to play a role--the further north you live, the more likely you are to get SAD. SAD is seven times more common in Maine than in Florida. See the story inside for more information.
