Best Hospital

For the 17th year in a row, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics ranks as one of

"America's Best Hospitals" with six of the hospital's specialties listed— three in the top 10—in an annual survey published by U.S.News & WorldReport magazine. The list of ranked specialties includes:

The Iowa Center for Auditory Regeneration

Located in the Carver Biomedical Research Center, the laboratory will seek to identify the genes responsible for hearing loss, understand the mechanisms of auditory nerve degeneration to better understand the mechanisms of regeneration, and to develop methods to re-grow the inner ear hair cells. The loss of these cells is the major cause of hearing loss.

Iowa Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center

The Iowa Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center, one of the world's premier centers for cochlear implant clinical research, received its fourth consecutive grant renewal from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, part of the National Institutes of Health. The five-year, $10 million grant renewal will fund basic research, clinical trials, and clinical outcomes research on cochlear implants in children and adults
