UI radiologist helps set lymphoma treatment guidelines

Malik Juweid, MD, a member of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, co-chaired an international team of cancer specialists and imaging experts who developed standardized guidelines for assessing lymphoma response to treatment.

Study results could improve treatment for heart failure patients

Brian Olshansky, MD, a cardiologist with UI Heart and Vascular Center, was the lead investigator on a landmark study that could lead to improvements for heart failure patients. He says the results of the study, the largest implantable pacemaker-defibrillator trial ever performed, are important because dual chamber ICD programming can provide benefits to patients that single chamber programming may not, such as improved heart function and enhanced arrhythmia detection.

JCAHO stroke certification

UI Hospitals and Clinics received certification as a Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). This certification demonstrates a commitment to excellence in stroke care. JCAHO awards the primary stroke center certification for one year to institutions that successfully demonstrate compliance in three areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards
  • Effective use of primary stroke center recommendations and clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care
  • Performance measurement and improvement activities
