Complex and rare cancers
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, site of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been designated a Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers by Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa.
Such centers provide a full range of cancer care services, including inpatient care, cancer surgery, and rehabilitation for oncology patients. Participation in the program demonstrates a commitment to helping patients make more informed health care decisions and achieve high quality outcomes.
Team approach to women's breast health
UI Breast Health Clinic offers women comprehensive care for breast problems, both benign and malignant. The clinic sees women with benign or undiagnosed breast problems and women with diagnosed breast cancer. A medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, and plastic surgeon can see each breast cancer patient simultaneously and decide on her management plan.

Bariatric excellence
The UI Obesity Surgery program has been designated as a United resource Networks (U.R.N.) Bariatric Center of Excellence indicating it meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards of care for bariatric (weight loss) surgery. It is the only center in Iowa to have received this designation. The program is already recognized as an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence and a Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Blue Distinction Center for Bariatirac Surgery.
