Wild eyes for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, and there’s a fun way for kids of all ages to take this year’s costume to the next level with eye-catching results.

"The special effects lenses are very popular right now because Halloween is coming up," says Christine Sindt, D.O., UI Health Care eye specialist. "They’re very popular with the sports fans – Hawkeye fans, other fans – who want to have logos on their eyes to show their ultimate sports affiliation."

Just about any wording, design or logo can go on these special lenses. But like any other contacts, getting started means making a trip to your eye care professional. Sindt says serious problems, including eye infections, can occur if contact lenses are not fitted properly or are shared by friends.

"You can certainly make your brown eyes blue. However, you need to have a licensed practitioner fit them to your eyes. And you should not trade them with other people."

By following some simple advice, people with special effects contact lenses can look forward to more treats than tricks this Halloween.
