Treatment of any diseases such as diabetes or pinworms should be the first line of action. Other measures that may be taken to help this problem should include:
Some people may have itching from eating or drinking certain foods. These foods may include coffee, beer, cola, vitamin C tablets if taken in too large doses, spices and citrus foods. These foods should be avoided. If it is not known what specific food is a problem, all of them should be avoided. After several weeks, the foods can be put back into the diet one at a time. If the itching starts again after a specific food, that food should be avoided all the time. Do not use any medicines unless a healthcare provider suggests them. The provider must be seen any time there is rectal itching that does not go away within a few days. Even with treatment from the provider it can take 4 to 6 weeks for the itching to stop.
