Regular screening tests and self-examinations, called secondary prevention, can help detect cancers in the early stages. This is when they are the easier to cure. Early treatment of cancer can be simpler, making it easier to go about daily life. This booklet provides you with the following information:
- The recommended screening guidelines for people with no symptoms. They come from the three nationally recognized groups: the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, and the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force.
- A brief description of each test.
- Symptoms to watch for and report to your doctor if they occur.
Some individuals may need to have certain tests more often. It will depend on their medical history or if they have a family member with cancer. Your doctor can tell you if you need any of these tests more often than what is recommended here.
