Imitation Karo Syrup
From the recipe collection of Erleen
9 cups sugar (or 4 1/2 cups cane sugar + 4 1/2 cups dextrose or
all dextrose, if desired)
2 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon alum
Mix ingredients in a large pan. Boil until it about runs over or 10 minutes. Store in
an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Hint: Add maple flavoring after it is cooked.
Warm before using Refrigeration make the syrup stiff, but it
molds at room temp.
May be used to make pistachio brittle at Christmas. Simply
use a peanut brittle recipe, replacing peanuts with
pistachios.
