Poor result of surgery: This 36-year-old patient was born with
bilateral congenital clubfeet treated with manipulations and plaster
casts in infancy. At 6 years of age the feet looked normal but the
mother was told by the doctor after seeing the roentgenograms that
surgery was necessary to improve the position of the bones. The
mother consented to the operation in one foot only. A posteromedial
release was done on the right foot. After surgery the foot became
stiff and progressively flattened. Now the patient has much pain in
the operated foot and very little motion in the midtarsal joints. A
triple arthrodesis has been indicated. The left foot is painless and
well aligned. See Fig. 32 for back view.
