Cardiac drugs are special

There are many different types of cardiac drugs that treat heart disease. A wide variety of cardiac drugs are used to:

  • reduce or prevent the pain of an angina attack
  • lower blood pressure
  • help regulate the heart rhythm
  • help prevent the formation of blood clots
  • help the pumping action of the heart
  • lower blood fats and
  • help prevent future heart attacks

No cardiac drug can cure existing heart disease or reverse the damage done by many years of high blood pressure and clogged arteries. Instead, the drugs help heart patients live a longer and higher quality life.

Cardiac drugs are prescribed to achieve a specific effect. These medications may also be prescribed in combinations. All cardiac drugs must be taken exactly as prescribed, and it may be helpful to use a reminder system to take the medicine on time.

Blood tests and medical exams are necessary in order to monitor a patient's progress in using cardiac drugs. All appointments scheduled by your healthcare provider are vital to maintaining your health.
