Sjogren's syndromeSjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the glands that produce tears and saliva. The classic symptoms of the disorder are dry mouth and dry eyes. Sjogren's syndrome may also cause skin, nose, and vaginal dryness, and may affect other organs such as the kidneys, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and brain. The disease occurs most frequently in women between ages 40 to 65. Sjogren's syndrome may occur as a single disorder or it may be associated with other inflammatory diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, or polymyositis. Sjogren's syndrome may cause the following symptoms:
