Sexual Response In WomenSexuality is an important part of human life. The sexual response has three stages that include: 1) desire and arousal, 2) orgasm, and 3) resolution. Desire is the emotional reaction to someone you care for. The arousal stage is your physical response to those things that you find exciting. In this stage natural lubrication occurs to prepare the body. Discuss openly with your partner what is appropriate and works for both of you during this stage. Orgasm is the peak of sensation felt by most, but not all, women. Some women may want to find a way to reach orgasm, while others are satisfied with their sexual response. In females, the orgasm sensation settles down slowly, during what is called the resolution phase. Men's resolution is much more abrupt. The sexual response cycle is complex. Many things may influence the process such as:
Begin by informing yourself. Your local bookstore or library has many good books on sexuality and sexual response. It can help to speak with a good friend or family member with whom you feel comfortable. If you need to discuss a problem, make an appointment with a professional such as healthcare provider or counselor. It may be hard to talk about your concerns, but try not to be embarrassed.
